Make a point to drive less.
For the majority of us, it’s become second nature to just grab our keys and go. But why? There are so many cheaper, cleaner, and funner ways to get where you’re going and enjoy the journey with your kids. Making the effort to drive less can reduce your anxiety, consumption, and waste.
Simple Ideas
- Get inspired by exercise. Riding a bike burns more than 100 calories per hour, driving burns zero
Just one day a week carpool, take public transportation, walk or ride a bike to work or school - Organize your to do list and combine multiple errands into one trip
- Instead of driving out of town on a shopping trip, shop online or over the phone
- When you do drive, slow down! At 75 mph you're burning 25% more fuel than at 55, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. And at speeds over 70 mph a small vehicle will use nearly as much energy as larger ones, negating the benefits of its smaller size and weight.
Know that in the U.S., about half of the air pollution comes from cars and truck so try to do the small things to drive less and smart and compute how much you spend on your commute - that number just may drive you to Drive Less.
